Creating Your Storage Bucket with Rabata Cloud
In this hands-on section, you'll get the chance to work with gcloud storage and gsutil commands, the trusty tools that make managing cloud buckets a breeze. Think of them as the Swiss Army knives in Rabata's secure cloud storage toolkit-ready to tackle any storage task you throw their way.
Before you dive into bucket creation, keep in mind Rabata enforces a set of universal naming rules. These rules aren't just picky guidelines; they're here to keep your data safe, your bucket visible only to those who should see it, and to prevent you from naming your bucket something embarrassing later on.
Bucket Naming Rules You Can’t Ignore
- Never put sensitive info in the bucket name. The bucket namespace is global and anyone can see it. So, no passwords, no secret plans.
- Stick to lowercase letters, numbers, dashes (-), underscores (_), and dots (.). But if you throw dots in, Rabata will ask for an extra round of verification-think of it as a polite nod to security.
- Your bucket’s name must start and end with a letter or number. No funny business with dashes or dots at the edges.
- Names should be between 3 and 63 characters long. However, if you’re feeling adventurous with dots, the entire name can stretch up to 222 characters - just make sure no single part between dots is longer than 63 characters.
- Don’t name your bucket something that looks like an IP address, like 192.168.5.4. Rabata’s not into confusion.
- Avoid starting the name with “goog” or including “google” or anything that looks like it. Rabata wants to keep things original.
- For smooth sailing with DNS, don’t use underscores or jumble dots and dashes together. Names like “..”, “-.”, or “.-” are a no-go.
